Hugh was an up and coming motorcyle rider, bordering on branching out into the professional world of motorcycling. He used to run with a few people, performing charitable rides to raise money for the Community Hospital in the main, though he did organise fund raisers for other charities too. Every ride he organised started out at Jerry's Bar, where he was well-known and well-respected.

In December 2004, Hugh was involved in an horrific motorcycling accident which should have killed him outright. Thankfully, having his medical insurance paid up to date ensured he got the treatment he needed from Cross Hospital and they managed to save him after twenty hours of surgery. The unfortunate part of his injuries was that he completely lost his sight, bringing his motorcycling days to an abrupt end. This sent Hugh into a deep depression, causing him to attempt to end his life on numerous occasions. After being admitted back into Cross Hospital on mental health grounds, he began to make progress, and show signs of adapting to his handicap, so he was released.

Hugh has spoken at length with some of his friends from Jerry's Bar regarding his accident and recovery. Everyone believes him to be delusional, but he claims to be able to "see", and "speak with" spirits.
